About The Artwork

This artwork is made of 3 panels. The left and the right panel are : H 150 cm x W 90 cm x D 4 cm each The middle panel is H 170 cm x W 220 cm x D 4 cm This picture was inspired by Paul Gauguin's masterpiece 'From where we came, who we are, where we are heading to..., but, using given elements from original, I have turned them to my own "mythology" - which is pop culture - so baby from the right part of Gauguin picture became Herman the Kid, peacock became the Pharoah Duck, Blue Idol from left part is Taveret, Egyptian Goddess with crocodile head, and Lamia I hope, that people will like the picture the same way I do, because i have created it to give me pleasure to paint something I'd like to look at I'm traditionalist, so i choose a painting medium, subject matter is quite natural for me, because I made deconstructions of some great pictures over a two decades, now in my own juxtaposition style.

Marek Kamienski, born in Poland: a painter, graphic artist, performer and author of installations. Since graduating from The Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, Kamienski's artistic career has ranged from lead singer and producer for the band Zilch to becoming one of Europe's leading artists of the New Expression movement during the 1980's. Kamienski's early works were full of irony, erotically charged, big and bold. His first professional exhibition was in 1983; inspired by erotic photography, Kamienski combined the styles of pop art with thick layers of paint savagely spread onto the canvas (Motorhead, 1982). His style was playful, visually bold and exciting, full of imagination and fantasy. He later became inspired by science fiction, particularly with creatures (Dinosaurs, 1985) and fused into his work quotes from great painters such as Jan Matejko. Kamienski's work continues to fuse elements of common culture with influences from the icons of European Art. Towards the end of the 80's, Kamienski moved away from these wild and bold paintings, as he began to experiment with different techniques and creative ideas. His work began to take on more of a post modernistic feel, with a futuristic edge (Socrates Dancing, Breakfast on Grass, 1991). He continued to draw inspiration from classical art; transforming, mixing and intertwining many different influences and styles into his pieces. Combining narrative onto his art and creating motifs which fuse these many influences has become his signature style. (Vincent and Paul Heading for the Motif'). Kamienski continues to exhibit his art in Poland, Germany and Italy and his paintings have been sold to numerous private collections in Poland, The UK and Russia.
