This painting intends to represent the past, present and future, simultaneously. Car travel is used here as a starting point. The spectator is in the driver's seat, the present, sees the past in the rear view, (the writer Eça de Queirós) and sees the future in front of him, the landscape with the lake. This painting is a representation of life as a continuous sum of "presents"; the "presents" of the past, the present and the "presents" that we hope will come.
