About The Artwork

Having spent most of my youth working on farms and in nature, I've always been fascinated by the repetition of natural forms that can be found in the branching of plants, arteries, leaves and ice crystals, or the ripples and spiral patterns caused by turbulence in wind and water. Equally fascinating are the many ways colors are subtly altered by the structure and chemical composition of soil and plants, to say nothing of the action of the sun and seasons. Fine hairs on the underside of a magnolia leaf can make it soft and silvery green, while the waxy surface of its topside renders it dark glossy and lush. The chemistry of the soil influences the hues of flowers and fruits; color and scent and flavor and nutrients are inseparable. These insights are integral to my artistic approach. Infinitely varied forms emerge from massive repetition; the colors which awaken our physical appetites are also a means of nourishing our spirit.
