About The Artwork

Created right before the pandemic hit, this painting offers insightful precognition. Two figures are intwined with a raven and a snake. Ravens symbolizes prophecies and omens, while the snake often relates to being reborn both physically and spiritually. The two mirrored figures are caught in a daydream visualized by peaceful mountain landscapes that symbolize their longing for respite. This painting bridges together powerful iconography that represents the year 2020 as a whole. Bonus: It's made with lush faux fur that feels amazing to run your hands through. It's a perfect way to take a moment and unwind after a stressful year.

Caroline Liu is a painter, seamstress, and muralist who bridges together two unique perspectives that form her identity. Liu’s work explores her personal experiences as a late diagnosed autistic adult and her tribulations with short-term memory loss as a result of multiple concussions in the last decade. Her paintings and plushies serve as documentation of memories she’d otherwise forget, as well as visual and tactile stimuli that provide her with restorative relief. By balancing between the two, her work communicates universal narratives that reflect feelings of loss, comfort, confusion, and happiness. These themes are explored through transporting viewers into her own imagined daydreams filled with bright pops of color, textural elements, and refractive light.
