This painting was informed by the succession of very beautiful and very sad events during the same day. Somehow, deep beauty seems always tinged by tragedy. While the image of the rose is very overused and sugarcoated, I wondered if a "portrait" of a specific rose associated with the emotion elicited by a specific event, might not still transmit emotion beyond the stereotype.
