About The Artwork

"No to perfectionism." is a grey-on-silver abstract acrylic painting. This textural painting was created with acrylic paint on a 24" ×36"×1.5" heavy-duty canvas. I am a perfectionist. It runs in my genes. Generations in our family have suffered and are suffering from this. Not everyone, however, considers perfectionism a disadvantage - after all, it allows you to achieve a lot in your studies and your career. And indeed, healthy perfectionism can drive people to perform their best. Still, unhealthy perfectionism can lead to stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, and other problems affecting your quality of life. Perfectionists are often critical, driven by fear, have unrealistic expectations, fear failure, and are defensive when facing criticism. I have fought with my perfectionism my entire life. How does it feel - to be a perfectionist? How would you describe perfectionism visually? How would you describe your fight with your perfectionism? This painting is my answer to these two questions: In terms of color and composition, the artwork should be gray, dank, nondescript, dull - as the psychological state of the perfectionist who is constantly dissatisfied with themself. But at the same time, the work should convey a certain feeling of strength and solidity, elegance, perhaps even the image of a monument to oneself who has achieved a lot. As to technique, the artwork has not to be done with the most delicate invisible strokes. On the contrary, it has to be made with large, rough strokes; it must look clumsy, very approximate, be simplified to two sentences. Rough texture only emphasizes tenderness, making it even more tangible. All this to show my way to fight with my perfectionism. Mistakes are necessary to get to where I want to be. Enjoying the process is the key. I don't want to be perfect anymore. Nobody's perfect. Our roughness, wrinkles, irregularities, cracks only emphasize our humanity, revealing our essence, that each of us is infinitely beautiful in our fragility and mortality. What is your opinion? Was my attempt successful? he painting comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
