Throughout history, up until today, war and conflict has corrupted our world. Some of us may be directly affected by war and others indirectly, but we are all affected. My goal is to depict the destruction war brings upon the beauty of our lives as human beings and the nature of the Earth. Coming from an artist who was directly affected by war, I am trying to bring awareness to these issues by showing the physical destruction that war brings upon us. I use bright colors in the landscape to show the beauty of our home, Earth. After this, the process of destruction begins. I introduce torn, gun shaped Japanese paper into the paintings by placing them into different angles that together symbolize explosions throughout the landscapes and to evoke a stronger emotion from the viewer. By adding different materials into my paintings, I am able to show the contrast between beauty and destruction through these materials. The transparency of the paper takes the meaning of the painting to a deeper level.

Art is a means of exploration and experimentation for me. Art is my passion as well as art education and I am thankful that I am able to pursue both by working as a high school art teacher and an artist. I enjoy working with a wide variety of color, texture, and transparencies to create expressive landscapes. Nature has always been my number one inspiration and motive when creating. My color choices are vibrant and diverse, creating the abstraction and imagination in the paintings. As an art teacher, I am able to see my students ideas and stories in the classroom. Their ideas inspire me everyday and bring me so much happiness. It is so fun and motivating to see their creativity. For three years, I worked as an artist assistant for a well known St. Louis artist. I was able to learn so much from the studio and always left inspired by her artwork.
