I recently travelled to Mull with my family to camp and was bewitched with how beautiful the Island was. Sitting off the West Coast of Scotland, a ferry journey from Oban, Mull is struck with weather straight off the Atlantic Ocean. This makes the weather changeable and untamed. I painted this based on photographs and sketches from a trip down the West coast of the Island where the light was incredible.
Painted in 5 sittings, using successive glazes of varying density, this painting gives you a sense of that untamed and feral landscape.
The painting is matt varnished, and while the image doesn't carry around the edges of the canvas, the edges are painted in a uniform colour sympathetic to the overall pallet, allowing it to be hung unframed if desired. There is a bracket fitted to the canvas allowing it to be hung securely.

I grew up around the coast lines of England and Scotland, and spent 18 years working offshore. When this career came to an end I returned to paintiing and drew upon my experiences in my landscape. I work to convey my emotions to the viewer, allowing them to feel the portrayed landscape as I did.
