110 x 160cm I was walking through Edinburgh's Meadows one foggy morning in April and looked up to see what in a split-second appeared to me as a looming figure. This moment passed and I saw the hazy form more clearly as a tree, its edges blurred by the fog ahead. I was intrigued by the way my tired eyes had played tricks on me and decided to paint an interpretation of it. My rendition of the moment is impressionistic, capturing the idea of a fleeting moment in time, and the ambiguous form of a tree-figure.

I use abstraction to interpret landscapes and environments, often using a range of mediums to produce dynamic, layered paintings which hold within them a sense of rhythm and flow. I am inspired by art’s potential to express ideas, atmosphere and emotion. I am interested in creating compositional balance by exploring contrasts of colour, form and texture, and enjoy developing and exploring new techniques and materials in my work.
