About The Artwork

Marvin Minsky was one of the smartest people you've probably never heard of. He was a computer scientist first and foremost, but many would say he was a wise philosopher as well. Minsky was a pioneer in the field of Artificial Intelligence and co-founded the MIT AI Lab, but also made contributions in scientific fields like mathematics and robotics. As you can imagine, Minsky was always thinking, always generating new ideas and theories, always brainstorming. I've portrayed that intellectual activity in the piece with the blue explosion of thought. Minsky's Epiphany, in my opinion, occurred when he realized the critical importance of the human side of computer-driven AI reasoning. This was a game changing concept, summed up by this quote: “Attitudes do really precede propositions, feelings come before facts”. Professor Marvin Minsky Note: This piece is painted on a repurposed ceramic tile that was left over after a construction project. There is a mounting hook on the back, so no frame necessary or possible.

After a 30 year career in advertising and sales leadership I escaped the corporate media world a few years ago and can now focus on creating my own work. In other words, I'm an outsider artist that has decades of ideas pouring out. My intent is primarily to create pieces of art that are highly visual and interesting to enjoy and study... but may often express ideas, ask questions, unearth feelings, debate opinions, or sometimes be provocative. Like many paintings though, they're often just a combination of lines, shapes, colors, textures, and space. That said; I hope my work presents a UNIQUE combination of art elements to you and that you like what you see. Better yet, I hope you believe some of my pieces should be included in your collection. I've traveled the world but have always lived in the Philadelphia area. While I have no formal training as an artist, I've been a photographer and I've been around the art community my whole life. My wife Suzanne works as a Docent for the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, and together we've raised three wonderful sons that are all now making their own way in the world. We have a home and our studio in Chester County PA with our Bernese Mountain Dog; Mr Charlie.
