About The Artwork

A highly dimensional unique painting that masquerades as a tapestry, Made purely from paint it ripples along the canvas and drips off the edge and down the wall. In tones of red weft held together with golden warp which hangs loose and eventually takes over in a work inspired by rising climate temperatures and the possibility of meltdown. Video https://youtu.be/zorYBuPVcCw This work is fitted with D rings and wire for immediate hanging. Strands hang freely down the wall extending from the canvas (the height measurement includes these strands). On the back you will find my signature, initials, title and year. It is registered on the NRAA (National Registry for Australian artists). The work comes with details of the registration and a Certificate of Authenticity. THE INTERWEAVE COLLECTION The series combines my love of craft with my passion for painting, using weaving techniques to create stunning textile like works which ripple over their support. Warp and weft threads are cut from a variety of different paintings which have been painted on surfaces that allow for their complete removal. The works are, therefore, made entirely from paint with no other material present.

Artist Statement “When the paint is dry my work is just beginning”. The thought that paint could be capable of independence from the canvas has been the driving force behind Julee’s art practice. It led to her process of creating paintings on plastic waiting for the paint to dry before she removes it. The unsupported material has an inherent flexibility that allows Julee to investigate her interest in textile, collage, and sculptural techniques. Through cutting, layering, moulding, weaving, and gluing, each creation is the result of many hours of meticulous and detailed work. An artist since childhood, Julee holds a BFA (Sculpture and Painting) from Curtin University, Perth. She is also the author of the book Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic (Schiffer Publishing Ltd, USA). Her works can be found in collections, both public and private, worldwide.
