This painting is a surreal depiction of the self. To the right hand side is a solid object, half rock or perhaps an inverted iceberg. It is the current, stable version of Self. To the right old waves (former identities, memories, traumas) attempt to rise up but as they near the rock/self, they are transformed into brilliant white light. This is the action of the Holy Spirit. I often paint the Holy Spirit in this vertical drops of white. I am fascinated by the human psyche and the role memories can have; how we can be formed by them but through supernatural intervention can be utterly redefined. The painting shows this battle in organic form.

My art is primarily organic abstraction, often portraying surreal and softened landscapes. A dream or nebulous quality marks both transitions and compositions. This is derived from a mode of life, which is rooted in inner stillness. I live in South West France, surrounded by tranquil forests. That quietness of being is what I strive for in my studio. I paint without distraction, so that I can fully connect with what I am creating. The more I can remove myself from the process, the better the work. I only paint in oils as they give such wonderful luminosity and I prefer large scale pieces for freedom of mind.
