About The Artwork

This entire collection was conceived after I spent 2 weeks participating at the iX Florence Biennale in Italy in 2013. On my return to London, where I had my studio in Hackney Wick I set about expressing my thoughts that I developed as I walked through the streets of Florence at night in the cold November air. I had been overwhelmed by the vanishing point. I realised that maths is an integral part of everyday life. We don't, as normal humans enjoy the subject in school but it is an ever present part of our lives at every moment. Be it through time, work, food, relaxing or even just day dreaming. There is the presence of maths in some form or the other. I kept the symbols to the most basic and commonly used ones. This collection needs to be kept and exhibited as an entire set.

Bernard Rangel is a self taught artist painting for more than 40 years. His surreal work is a new avenue departing from the established ones of artists such as Miro, Matisse and Max Ernst: it is both creative and visceral. Named "Contemporary Tribal Surrealism" it reflects the Global Village of the 21st century. The lines of his work both in design and colour are creative, coherent, consistent, original and unique, but it all springs forth from a source that is intriguing, like his cultural background. The lines of tribal simplicity fused in solid and amusing lines. In particular when the viewer just looks at the different colour fields the work takes on other dimensions. Bernard has lived in 8 different countries: in both hemispheres and on either side of the globe. Now based in London he explores new ways of presenting his images to a wider audience. His present work can be seen on smartphone protectors, animated videos on YouTube, and in his new studio in Bermondsey at the Biscuit Factory, Block F, Studio 20, SE16 4DG.
