About The Artwork

THE PAINTINGS SECTION FROM DAVIS MUSEUM The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona Davis Lisboa, “Marcel Broodthaers #4 (Paintings)", 2016, oil on canvas, 11,8 x 11,8 x 1.57 in (30 x 30 x 4 cm) The Geert De Kegel Collection, Zele, Belgium. What/who inspired the work? This work has been inspired by the Gerhard Richter, Luc Tuymans or Wilhelm Sasnal's paintings. Al these artists share the same line of work. What do you hope viewers will feel/think? I hope the viewers learn about this photograph of Marcel Broodthaers I used to make this work. In this reference, the Belgium artist is wearing a clown nose. Broodthaers used it to design a poster exhibition for his "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles" (Museum of Modern Art, Department of Eagles). I hope that viewers feel the delicate nuances of oil brushstrokes on canvas. I hope they realize the first works of "The Paintings Section" were in black and white and I'm now using different shades of blue (Cobalt, Ultramarine and Prussian Blue). The use of this color in these collection produces a conceptual connection between the portrayed character and the Davis Museum corporate blue. Why did you choose the medium, subject matter, style? I chose the oil medium on canvas because it is the "king" of medium painting. I chose to do a portrait of Broodthaers as a form of "appropriation". It is a way to catch and memorize him, to try to understand his ideas. And I think I can start making his portrait. How will your artwork be packed for a movement? Artwork will be guaranteed to be shipped in accordance with high security standards, so that your shipment is as safe as possible while traveling from the artist's studio to your museum, gallery, hotel, business or home. For this, your oil paintings on canvas will be sent unrolled, stretched out on a wooden frame, flat, without frames and any special assembly. The packaging of wrapped canvases consists of: · An acid-free archival quality glassine paper cover · Two sheets of Foam boards · A sealed heavy plastic bag (to protect against moisture) · Two layers of bubble wrap and secure with tape · Cardboard protectors to each corner of the oil painting · Two other larger sheets of Foam boards · A sturdy cardboard box marked as "Fragile" Davis Museum Paintings Section in Private Collections Alejandro Vásquez Herrero Collection, Viladecans, Spain.
