I was struggling to come up with something new to paint in wildlife. I love mantises, and I'm not aware of these creatures being painted a lot. So I stuck it into a scene that I also love. I don't know if this kind of thing will catch on; but if it does, there are a lot of mantids that can be doing a lot of things in a lot of places.
