About The Artwork

I was asked to submit a piece of work to a Christmas Art show in 2019. I decided to paint Mary and the Christ Child. I grew up in a religion that does not hold Mary as high regard as the Catholic religion does and was rather unfamiliar with many of the famous Madonna and Child religious paintings. I recently visited Italy and was in awe at the beauty of these paintings. I hoped my painting would portray the love a mother feels for her child, while at the same time illustrating the weight of the world she may have felt from the beginning. As a mother, I remember holding my firstborn in my arms and feeling inadequate and overwhelmed by love. I chose patterns and a style that looks a bit more Middle Eastern rather than Western, as Jesus was Jewish and from Jureselam. Additionally, many of my artworks contain a variety of patterns, as I am a huge fan of Gustov Klmpt
