This piece was part of my series "Earth Pt. 2." It was exhibited at the Tomayko Gallery at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA. Humans have always feared that the end is near. Inspired by religion, war, or natural disasters, there’s an inkling that doomsday is not impossible. We somehow get over it - at least enough to be functional people. Heavy concepts of the beginning of time, the end of the world, The Big Bang, The Big Rip, can be challenging to engage with. I’m interested in how we cope with thoughts and feelings that arise when we take these deep-dives. Sometimes we’re inspired, feeling a call to action. Sometimes we’re overwhelmed and wish there was a reset button. Sometimes we cope- we buy things, we consume things, and hopefully we make things.

Seth LeDonne creates work that highlights the novelty and profoundness of everyday life. Their recent bodies of work examine masculinity, reliance on technology, humankind’s relationship with the natural world, apocalyptic poetry, and mental wellness. Central to LeDonne’s work is providing the viewer with a point of relatability through warmth or humor. Their work advocates for the usefulness of reflection and self-expression as self-care tools. Seth is inspired by the urgency of water-based mediums, and the inclusion of unconventional and commonplace materials create a link between the artwork and everyday life. Defying the rules and expectations for materials liberates LeDonne’s process from creative rigidity. Disdain for perfectionism is a thematic and aesthetic element of their work.
