I love dealing with odd forms... and I hope this size will fit your slim wall perfectly. In this almost abstract feeling painting we see a lot of hair coiled around the neck of a woman. We also see a tear-shaped earring that looks like it might be made of perl. This painting expresses my feelings on how, sometimes, my thoughts (=hair... "that what comes out of my head") can totally suffocate me. I love seeing how my work is progressing toward a more and more slick Manga style, with clean, flowing outlines, but I will always keep some "messyness" in the image, so it's superclear that it's hand-painted. I've got a strong predilection towards handmade art versus prints... you might even say it's a bit of a fetish of mine! And I imagine the collectors who like my art too. The sides are painted as well, so there is no need to frame it, as it's crispy finished on all sides. I've signed the canvas on the front, and on the back you'll find another signing plus the title and the year of making. Thank you for supporting my art!

My name is Monique van Steen and I am dutch artist who lives and works in the beautiful city Barcelona. In my early 20's I fell in love with the Spanish life-style. 
The passionate form of living life captivated my heart, yet it was foremost the mediterranean light that seduced me. 
This light enhances all the worldy colors and this inspires me to paint with the vibrant colors my artworks are now known for. The ever moving inner feminine world is what fascinates me as an artist. I portray strong women, 
 strong in their fierceness, strong in their hopes,
yet also strong in their sensuality, in their vulnerabilities and doubts… yet always theirselves.
 My style is aligned with that, 
I speak in a visual language that is easily understood: Urban pop art. 
 The flowing outlines speak a clear message and the vibrant colors add intensity to the personality of the depicted feelings.

 The Modernist era, ever so present in Barcelona with the recurring natural and female features in the architecture and urban furniture are a traceable influence in my art, 
enchanting your eyes and your heart.
