What are you thinking, looking at this painting? Is the artist anticlerical? Isn’t it inappropriate at such difficult times to shatter the already unstable social moral norms? And does this work mean to insult the religious feelings of believers? Everyone is free to interpret the painting as he or she wants. But let’s answer one question first: what does religion mean today and what is left of the Word of Christ in the modern world? In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. God is the Word that gives hope, heals the worst ailments, the Word that saves those who are on the ropes. God is not about ceremonies and attire, not about religious holidays and rituals, not priests or church corporations. But thanks to human nature, faith has turned into a religion, and soul healing into a race for political influence. In the 21st century, there is no more influence, but what remains is only a beautiful wrap, like the one for a lollipop - bright and glossy on the outside and dull on the inside. This is what this painting is about: to say that the church is a souvenir business or a supplier of beautiful photos for Instagram. Everything will be pop and trendy, as their client wants. What do we do when there is no soul left? Trade its shell. Even the devil, as the tales say, couldn’t think of that. The audience may not agree with this image of religion, but the artist’s task is to manifest, not to teach. This is just a statement of fact, and what happens next, we shall wait and see.

Guinean and New York based Artist Syuzanna Kamara is one of the most promising artists of her generation. Raised in Guinea and in Moscow (Russia) Syuzanna is a graduate of Moscow state Surikov Art Institute and Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts (top 3 ranked art academies in the country). As a graduate of the best Russian art schools, Syuzanna is a follower of traditional Russian art school that certainly is reflected in her works. Along with that, Syuzanna brings drops of modernity in her paintings, creating an absolutely unique and distinctive style. In her artwork Ms.Kamara skilfully combines boldness, uniqueness and eccentricity of Pop Art movement, traditions of Classicism as well as brilliantly expressing her inner world, letting it come alive through the strokes of brushes and the texture of paint. Her artwork is full of depiction of reality, vitality, raw and exposed feelings, and is daringly imaginative. In her work, Syuzanna seeks to achieve the simple forms and textures inspired by the human body, transmission of emotions with the texture of the skin and water, ice and fabrics, portraying it as the three-dimensional projection as well as two-dimensional, flat decorative.
