This painting is one of my series of surreal landscapes. I am fascinated by transitional light, color and succulents. To me, succulents often look like creatures from another planet and they go very well with an imaginary atmosphere. They are also beautiful and beauty is its own excuse for being.

I was born and brought up in Boston, Massachusetts. I can't remember a time when I didn't have a pencil in my hand and a pad of paper to draw on. I've never imagined being anything but an artist, although there was a time after graduating college that i had to wait for my ideas to come of age. Although I'm a native of the East Coast, after working in Santa Barbara since 1976 and the California light, colors, and aesthetic has been the strongest influence on my work. I categorize my paintings as Contemporary California Realism.
