Kupquilt Painting

I was inspired by a catalog of works by the artist Kupka. I found his line work rhythmic and happy. In keeping with my latest series of "quilted" paintings, I decided to give this miniature canvas work a little quilt feeling by adding shadows that make the white areas seem to puff up. For the shapes I used line and painted collage papers. I use perm papers often, because of their lovely translucency and lightness. It was rather painstaking since I was working with tiny pieces of paper, attaching them to each other as one would fabric on a quilt. The end result is a combination of curling organic shapes and bright colors. I hope the viewer experiences the feeling of happiness I felt while making it.
