Originally painted for a contest for a council in Limburg. Because the council decided on the purchase of another painting this one came on the international market. After a long period of painting in just black and white, I tend to use very bright colors. The original photograph was taken at the coronation of the king. He was dressed in a black suit, so I translated the color in purple, for the colorful effect.

Born 31st of oct. 1963 in Amsterdam. My father, who was a painter as well, gave me my first lessons. I studied 5 years at the Ruudt Wackers Academy in Amsterdam. I've participated in group exhibitions in Jan van der Togtmuseum in Amstelveen, museum GEM in The Hague and Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven. My work is a way of coping with life. I record the world around me constantly, either by drawing sketches or by using my camera. In my studio the images are filtered and altered and somehow made into paintings or drawings. I experimented a lot with black and white paint and I still find that very interesting. Diminishing the range of colors leads to exposing the essence of things.
