Identity ONE Painting

This work is from the 'Identity' series, which I have been energetically working on in recent times. I also made it to mark my 32th birthday, as a form of remembrance of this crazy year (at least for me). * I, as a painter with a penchant for portraits, find it strange that in today's world of increasingly fussy selfies, they find narcissistic making portraits through painting, especially self-portraits. I've done several self-portraits, and I like to do them because they mark certain periods of my life, and show the evolution in my way of painting and seeing me. Also, this is a way that I as an artist find to try to reproduce what is on my creative mind. For me to paint a face is very personal, and besides I don't have a living model to be posing whenever I want and the way I want. With me I can go much further, although it is somewhat lonely. But it's like a therapy, a deep insight. What do I want to go through right now? What am I going through right now? Is this how I see myself with 32? Unlike photography, painting does not capture just a moment of light. It captures a whole life phase. It is simply so much more. It may even capture failure and a deep sadness. There is no falsehood, the brushstrokes deliver the mood. And so it will be, in all my works, whether it's a self-portrait or someone else's portrait. It is the eternalization of a life.
