About The Artwork
The Icon is the exact opposite of an Idol. An idol attracts attention to itself, The Icon always points beyond what is painted. It is a doorway, a window into heaven and reveals some of the glory that is to be. The word ICON, is Greek and means "image". An Icon reveals an inner truth and makes a theological statement about the two worlds in which we live: the outer, visible, conscious, material world, and the inner, invisible, unconscious, spiritual world. In truth these two worlds are one, and of this truth the Icon is a sign. Icons have a traditional style with some modifications added by the artist. This Icon of the Madonna is surrounded by a bespoke frame with colored glass beads embedded in it. The figure is wearing a crown and head-dress decorated (not painted on) with gems which appear as Rubies, Sapphires and Diamonds as well as a pearl necklace extending from the crown and becoming part of the robe. An ICON may bring a touch of the divine into your space.
