About The Artwork
Elche is a city in the south of Spain, close to my hometown. The origin of the city is in 500 BC when the Iberians built and founded the city of Hélike. The "Lady of Elche" is an Iberian Sculpture from the 4th century BC, with strong Hellenistic influences and it might be Tanit, the goddess of Carthage, who was worshiped by the Punic-Iberians, but the "Lady of Elche" still puzzled archeologists and there are several theories to what this mysterious limestone bust represents, since it was found by chance in 1897.
