Being Basquiat, what would it feel to be inside the head of Basquiat 2022 and combined his thoughts with my style of art? In the collection Being Basquiat I’m letting myself be influenced by Basquiat’s work, using the medium and details I love. Being stamps, stencils and spray paint or some paper clippings from old Life-magazines. I painted Basquiat is a mix of screen-printed backgrounds of newspaper articles and street art, sprayed with stencils. On top of that a female street artist viewing her work. New details can be found in every inch.

Pia Lilenthal is a contemporary street mix-media artist. She combines stencil work with multiple layers and techniques in the backgrounds. It could be watercolor, acrylic paint, screen printing, collages of stamps. Or a mix of them all. Portraits are a common motif, often women, containing details connected to the person in the different layers. Her background as graphic designer and long experience of making sketches digitally, comes handy when planning compositions and different color combinations.
