This litle Painting in oil and black and white pencil on canvas glued to 3mm cardboard comes in a black wooden frame. As a sculptor I use the paintings as a source of inspiration. Some paintings get their own existence. This is such a work.

I am Martijn Troost, a sculptor and painter based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I make both free and commissioned work. I was born in 1963 in Nuenen, Brabant, the Netherlands. I graduated from the Rietveld Academy in 1990 and since then, I have been dedicated to creating autonomous sculptures and paintings. I have actively participated in various sculpture symposiums, sculpture routes, and related exhibitions in countries such as Italy, England, France and the Czech Republic. Sculpture is my passion and life's work. My first major public commission was designing a memorial monument for the WWII period '40-'45. In my work, I employ a monumental, archaic-figurative, and abstract-constructive approach. These principles serve as guidelines for my creations. I draw inspiration from various metaphorical subjects, such as the human brain where mental connections, emotions, and memories take place. I also draw inspiration from the physical connection of forces during birth, the sensitivity of touch and the tangible, as well as the more abstract, imaginary aspect of the cosmos. Additionally, I am greatly fascinated by the underground network of infinite mushrooms. I see it as it were ”the brain of the globe." Important themes in my work are encounters, growth, connection, and development, which play a central role in my daily life. Drawing and painting form the foundation for capturing my ideas and thoughts. These autonomous works serve as notes in my personal diary, where I document personal and societal events. Subsequently, I experiment with various materials and techniques to create the final tangible artwork. Martijn Troost
