About The Artwork

She is holding a secret. Some secrets are colorful, some are dark, some are both..is it healthy for her to keep it? In Recovery rooms there is a saying "Secrets keep us sick" or “You are only as sick as your secrets”. Shame festers in the darkness of secrecy and once a secret is out, it is as if lancing a boil and the would can finally heal. People who grow up in dysfunctional homes, or live in addiction or someone suffering with addiction, tend to live with secrets. As an ASUDC (Advanced Substance Use Disorder Counselor), I was privileged to help alleviate shame with my clients and watch them remember, or even discover who they are for the first time. In this portrait I am hoping to portray apathy that can come from living in the chaos of dysfunction. Too many emotions going on the same time can be too much to bear, the background represents these emotions. --- If you or someone you know is suffering from addiction RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE.

Her colorful paintings are an expression of life and how “colorful” it can be. She communicates the healing power of art and lifts our spirits. Her bold color style emanates human emotion and expresses the spectrum of emotion. Just as emotions are constantly changing, so is her art- It is characterized by vibrant color, constant change, experimentation, and development. She graduated from UVU 2019 with a Bachelor's in Art and Design and an advanced substance use disorder counseling degree.
