Artist Recognition
Artist featured in a collection
In this colorful 16" x 20" landscape oil painting, the artist connects with the creative nature of time, home and community. This oil painting takes an architectural focus as the artist captures the transition along a historic main street. She moves the viewer from the detail of a Victorian home to an abandoned 1950's store front. Connected by a lattice gateway the two buildings become a framework of community history and passage of time. The colors are kept bright, influenced by the light of day and opposing cast shadows. The shapes remain simple yet characteristic of what the vista holds as part of it's story. Inspiration for this painting came from the artists recognition of her communities commitment to preserve historic landmarks. Although she has witnessed these buildings hold many different types of businesses their primary structures remain the same and anchored in the time in which they were built. This is one of the things she treasures most about where she lives.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
