About The Artwork

Painted live at Bethesda Church, Vancouver, WA. December 3, 2017 As we enter the Advent season, I was pondering what to paint. I felt the Lord’s pleasure toward us. He delights in us. Delight means: a high degree of gratification or pleasure; joy. As I thought on this, images rushed my mind of Christmas; the virgin birth, the King of the universe born in a barn one evening. No trumpets to announce His arrival. Just a quiet birth. Christmas is a celebration of His birth. Why did Jesus come? For many reasons: because of His great love for us, to remove the stain of sin once, for all... But one reason leapt out above all others. He was born in a barn because He delights in us. The God of the universe receives a high degree of gratification, pleasure and joy in you! Why? You are His unique masterpiece. An original. He made you and there is no one on this earth exactly like you. The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 Delight can also mean ‘Of the Light’. Jesus is the Light of the world. The yellows and oranges in the painting symbolize grace and reverence.
