About The Artwork

Himmel auf Erden The title of this artwork is Heaven On Earth in the German language, because German is one of the official languages of the people of Switzerland. During my first spring in Tennessee I felt as if I was in Heaven, seeing an absolute burst of fresh green foliage all over the place. Growing up in metro cities, I had never experienced the wilderness to it's fullest. Most of my life had been spent between tall buildings and skyscrapers, so aptly called 'Concrete Jungles.' So for me to be able to experience this absolutely divine natural phenomenon was mind blowing. Everywhere I looked it was just green, green and more green. I said to myself "I am definitely in Heaven. " I remember saying to my husband - "If we were to fly over this place in a helicopter, all we would be able to see was the color green." Browsing through photographs a friend showed me, made me realize, that I was very much on Earth, 'I hadn't died" This artwork is of Switzerland though it looks very much like parts of Tennessee. This painting is from a video of Switzerland, that I once stumbled upon on the internet. I paused it and took a screen shot of this view. Originally it was supposed to be the view that I wanted to show out of a window frame, with the shutters open, and I planned on naming it - "I Woke Up In Switzerland" But after finishing the painting, I just could not get myself to cover up this beautiful and mystifying scenery with the framework of a window. So I just left it as it is. I would like my viewers to enjoy this mesmerizing place through my artwork.

The inclination towards painting and art was a natural transition. Being the daughter of an Architect who was an extraordinary artist himself meant that Ritina was exposed to drawings, precision, structure and expression of art from a very young age. Though, she did engage in painting during her academic years, it was more of a hobby and pass time activity whenever she needed to empty her mind and relax, which just faded away unknowingly as if pushed to the back burner. During her formative years, she engaged in a great deal of painting techniques, like fabric painting, art on pottery, and wooden surfaces, all just a source of enjoyment. It wasn’t till very recent times that she really started pursuing this passion seriously. Her works of art have been sold and gifted to a lot of her friends and family. The recent years have been an interesting journey, where she looks back and see’s the transformation of an amateur to a more professional level as an artist. However, the more interesting part has been her enjoying every single moment of this journey. The more she learns, the more she realizes, how much she does not know about the infinite spectrum of art! Living in the peaceful town of Tennessee, USA, has been a blessing, as it has let Ritina explore and express her creativity through every new piece of art she creates. Losing track of time when engrossed in art is so very true for this artist, who toils for perfection, by giving each piece of artwork her true heart and soul. So rightly said in her own words – “Each piece of my artwork is like a piece of me being reflected through it. They are me in the form of a painting.” Guess it is true that when passion becomes profession, you never work again! A self-taught artist, with no training in the field of art and painting, she has reached her present level of skill through practice and watching other artists at work on the internet. She enjoys using various surfaces, mediums and textures for painting and is always keen to try out something new. Doing commissioned artwork is a challenge which gives her an opportunity to stretch her limits even further. Recently, she ventured into portrait painting too, which is a whole new arena by itself. Basically, her preferred medium has always been acrylics, due to its speedy drying time. Sometimes the use of oils, where blending and creating textures, has always been simpler, also indulges her.
