Here Be Gardens is painting with sensitivity to memories and potencies of early places. As Aborigines speak of 'jiva' a 'seed power' deposited in the earth, in their view every meaningful activity, event, of life process that occur at a particular place leaves a trace, a residue in the earth, as plants leaves an image of themselves as seeds. Through the process of painting the game is organizing the states of feelings that become questions of light, color, weight, solidity, airiness and lyricism.

This large scale painting is on un-stretched canvas - for installation, I would recommend it to be mounted to a pole along the top in the style of a hanging scroll. The triptych could also be stretched more traditionally on a wood canvas stretchers.

About The Artwork

"Here Be Gardens" is a painting that delves into the resonance of memories and the essence of early places. Inspired by the Aboriginal concept of 'jiva,' it explores the idea of a seed power embedded in the earth, where every significant experience leaves an imprint, much like a seed planted in soil. Through the act of painting, emotions are distilled into questions of light, color, weight, and texture, creating a visual symphony of sensations. This large-scale artwork, presented on un-stretched canvas, offers flexibility for installation, suggesting it be mounted to a pole like a hanging scroll or stretched conventionally on wooden canvas stretchers for a more traditional display.
