Hello Old Friend This is one of those rare paintings that I got everything in my head out onto the artwork. I had time to design the frame and painting as one unit. This painting tells the story of an elderly gentleman that reunites with his first love, the trumpet. He had to push aside his youthful trumpet playing from the pressures of career and family. Through the years, he’s been a great provider for his family, giving them a beautiful home and financial security. We join him standing in his living room after coming in from the terrace looking out on Mount Rainier. You can feel the afternoon sun filling the room with warm light glistening through the big bay windows. The richness of African culture adorns the walls with tapestries and fine art. Dressed in a new bespoke suit for the dinner party later tonight, he finds himself overwhelmed with excitement to open a gift that arrived earlier. To his surprise, he finds his childhood friend, the trumpet… and many others.
