About The Artwork
My aim with this painting was to make you feel the warmth of the sun on your skin through the water, to capture the reflections of the water as you rise to the surface. The contrast between the looser style of water sand the more realistic reflections focus your attention on the body rising to the surface. The background has been loosely applied with a palette knife over a fluorescent background to achieve a feeling of depth and movement.

Originally from New Zealand, I have been in the U.K. for 20 years now, after 18 years in London I relocated out to the lush Kent countryside where I paint in a studio at the bottom of the garden with my dog and 6 Music. In my paintings I love the idea of recreating the physical memory of water, sunshine and light. I aim to capture in a single moment the exhilaration, the joy, the solitude or the tranquility of being in the water. I explore all manner of subjects in my work but I find the underlying connection of water seems to reoccur continuously.
