About The Artwork

Inspired by music culture of the early 1970's, I revisited New York's Studio 54/Max's Kansas City/CBGB's music scene to come up with characters to star in my show Icons and Barflies. I had a spare piece of wood left over from a large commission so I tried something new...slice of life portraiture. I took a skinny slice of a photo and created a colorful rock portrait that will be easy to hang in limited space. I loved painting this one so much that I asked my husband to have some more cut and proceeded to paint a few more. I believe I'll continue to paint these tall, thin pieces until I tire of doing them! This is 1/4" plywood that's very light and bendable, and has a little block of wood with a wire attached to the back. If you want to have it framed, it will of course be a custom job and the back hanger should not interfere with the frame at all. It will be sent in a cardboard box.

I'm a self-taught artist who has made a living for over 15 years, painting portraits of blues legends in oils and wood stain.(under a pseudonym) I paint on anything I can find, including chairs, guitars, wood and canvas, jeans, walls and electrical boxes on the street. I started designing and painting stage sets for several theaters, including my own Ocean Beach Playhouse from 2010-2015, and I currently paint for stage free lance. I recently moved to a part of San Diego called The East Village. It's in my tiny one-car garage (The Paint Factory) that I began to experiment in abstract backgrounds using spray paints, acrylics and oils. My style is a little edgy, raw and urban. I'm also a little messy and have paint on me most of the time. My recent obsession is Mod 60's imagery, which includes models, musicians and pop culture icons, both current and from my childhood. All my art is experimental as my skills in realism do battle with my desire to warp and manipulate reality. I'm a poor stencil artist…but from my lack of skills evolved a style that is a mix of stencil work and painting that creates a colorful mash up that pleases me….for the moment! I'm also experimenting with abstract painting in acrylics using palette knives and brilliant color.
