About The Artwork

First Lightning is an unstretched oil painting on linen which hangs from a flag pole like, welded steel structure. It depicts the Soviet Union's first nuclear test in 1949 (also sometimes known as RDS-1 or Joe-1) Although I have had to list the size in inches, the size in cm relates to the yield of the explosion. Each square cm of the painting represents 10 tons of TNT - which is the unit of measurement used for nuclear devices.
