This pondering lady was painted with what I was obsessed about during that time: the fibonacci sequence, also known as the golden ratio. These mathematical rules are to be encountered all over nature. Fibonacci discovered this rithm in the 12 century and soon all artists would implement them in music, architecture and other visual arts. The repetition is somehow pleasant and harmonious to our eyes. I've painted it with acrylics and synthetic enamel dripped on top of that. In my vimeo profile you can find videos of how I apply this tecnique. The flanks are painted as well, so there is no real need for a frame in order to make this artwork to look good on your walls.

My name is Monique van Steen and I am dutch artist who lives and works in the beautiful city Barcelona. In my early 20's I fell in love with the Spanish life-style.
The passionate form of living life captivated my heart, yet it was foremost the mediterranean light that seduced me.
This light enhances all the worldy colors and this inspires me to paint with the vibrant colors my artworks are now known for. The ever moving inner feminine world is what fascinates me as an artist. I portray strong women,
strong in their fierceness, strong in their hopes,
yet also strong in their sensuality, in their vulnerabilities and doubts… yet always theirselves.
My style is aligned with that,
I speak in a visual language that is easily understood: Urban pop art.
The flowing outlines speak a clear message and the vibrant colors add intensity to the personality of the depicted feelings.

The Modernist era, ever so present in Barcelona with the recurring natural and female features in the architecture and urban furniture are a traceable influence in my art,
enchanting your eyes and your heart.
