Eye-Balling Painting

This delicious pink, fleshy mass of bodies and eye balls is inspired by the artist Hans Bellmer as well as the film Psycho. The painting is about gaze; how we look at ourselves and others. It reflects upon the act of looking, the experience of being looked at and everything in between. I was inspired by psychological theories involving gaze and self objectification. With realistic eyeballs and a confusion of body parts and folds, this piece has lace textures and hues of magenta, purple and blue that pop out with vibrancy. The piece is made up of eight 40x40cm canvases that are hung together as one oil painting. Signed on the side of the canvas.
