About The Artwork

I visited writer Ernest Hemingway's House in Key West Florida and was inspired to paint it as it has the most gorgeous wide verandah, window shutters and palms in the garden. It was very hot when I visited and it was gorgeous standing out on the verandah in the slight breeze looking down onto the garden full of palms. The architectural style is Spanish colonial and it is always interesting to me to visit the homes of creative people to see the room they worked in the bed they slept in imagine what they were feeling and the kinds of conversations that were held within the walls. We are all mostly curious and love to see his writing room but this architectural beauty is beautiful house in its own right as it was in ints day. It is situated at 907 Whitehead Street across from Key West lighthouse. Since 1968 it was nominated a U.S National Historic Landmark I love painting architecture I can feel the energy of buildings and I only paint those I am drawn to in this way. This house reminded me of the Singapore Shophouses I have been painting in my Singapore series.
