Eliana Sevillano was born in La Paz, Bolivia on September 1, 1947. From 1962 to 1965 she studied at the School of Pure Art at the "Cristobal Rojas" Academy of Fine Arts in Caracas, Venezuela. From 1972 to 1973 she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome in Italy, attending the Nude Course. From 1976 to 1978 she studied graphic techniques at the Graphic Arts Center in Caracas, Venezuela. From 1978 to 1979 she won a scholarship to study graphic techniques in the Abel Valmitjana Atelier in Arezzo, Italy. She has been painting for about 50 years. Lives and works between Caracas, Venezuela and Arezzo, Italy. The already long and complex artistic activity of Eliana Sevillano, between Venezuela and Europe, between social commitment carried out together with the Pez Dorado group (Pol, Barboza, Gil, Ubide, Gonzales) and progressive "liberation" towards an abstract naturalist matrix. Her painting comes from highly individual distances, even autobiographical, where the practice of art relies on that "constancy of reason" which borders on the ethical side of doing, for a responsibility that has been assumed beyond the very territories of art. A sign, this, very recognizable at first glance, unmistakable above all, even if it were to be submerged by stratifications of theoretical, conceptual and philosophical contributions. In short, Sevillano's painting is of that "grain", certainly rare today, which would always manage to emerge, each time purified from and in its very substance, to manifest the only destiny for which it has come down to us, despite the experiences and the reversals of course, the destiny of being gradually observed in the unfolding of its own phenomenology, in its appearance as a "thing" so totally and physiologically "visual" as to put us back in tune with certain unrepeatable and "true" moments of painting.
