Easter Lily Painting

This expressive portrait of a small bunch of Easter Lilies in a blue and white porcelain jug is part of my recent collection of vase & bloom inspired pieces. Painted in late July of this year, it features deeply textured brushstrokes in soft, velvety matte gouache paint. Myriad tones of red, orange and pink enliven the background while the white tablecloth beneath the piece reveals deeper tones of blue and emerald just below the surface. The white lily blossoms jut out of the vessel at awkward angles, while a handful of leaves in varying speckled, spotted and striped patterns and green tones ranging from lime, through forest and into emerald create contrast and depth. Sprays of scratchily drawn babies breath completes the bunch of flowers, and the painting.
