About The Artwork

Inspired by Dolly Parton’s beautiful song, Coat of Many Colors Where to begin. Dolly Parton is such a great songwriter. AND she’s such an inspiration. Not to mention, a LGBTQ+ ally and supporter of Black Lives Matter. Dolly’s songwriting has a way of lifting and inspiring people from all walks of life. She presents it as perfectly in keeping with the rest of her worldview, most notably her Christian faith, saying, “God made us who we are and how we are.” “Coat Of Many Colors” (“I Believe In You” Version) Back through the years I go wanderin’ once again Back to the seasons of my youth And I recall a box of rags someone gave us And how my momma put the rags to use There were rags of many colors But every piece was small I didn’t have a coat And it was way down in the fall Momma sewed the rags together Sewin’ every piece with love She made my coat of many colors That I was so proud of While momma sewed, she told a story From The Bible, she had read About a coat of many colors Joseph wore and then she said “I hope this coat will bring you Good luck and happiness” And I just couldn’t wait to wear it And momma blessed it with a kiss My coat of many colors That my momma made for me Made only from rags But I wore it so proudly And although we had no money I was rich as I could be In my coat of many colors Momma made for me So with patches on my britches Holes in both my shoes In my coat of many colors I hurried off to school Just to find the others laughing And making fun of me In my coat of many colors Momma made for me And oh I couldn’t understand that ‘Cause I felt I was rich And I told them of the love Momma sewed in every stitch I even told ’em all the story Momma told me while she sewed Why my coat of many colors Was worth more than all their clothes They didn’t understand it And I tried to make them see One is only poor Only if they choose to be It’s true we had no money But I was rich as I could be In my coat of many colors Momma made for me ‘Cause she made it just for me Incidentally, she wrote this song on the back of Porter Wagner’s dry cleaning receipts! You just gotta love this woman!!!! In 2009, Dolly spoke out in a CNN interview in support of marriage equality: “Sure, why can’t they get married? They should suffer like the rest of us do.” The way Dolly answered with her everyday wit and humor makes support for marriage equality sound like common sense, as if there should be no debate about it. For someone who has often avoided explicit political statements, when it comes to LGBTQ rights, Dolly has been unambiguous in her support. Dolly is not only positive and affirmative about accepting LGBTQ people, but she presents it as perfectly in keeping with the rest of her worldview, most notably her Christian faith, saying, “God made us who we are and how we are.” She’s also supportive of Black Lives Matter. In an interview with Billboard magazine, the singer addressed various topics, including the protests against racism and police brutality that have swept the United States following the death of George Floyd. While she has not attended the protests, she voiced her support. “I understand people having to make themselves known and felt and seen,” she said. “And of course, Black lives matter. Do we think our little White a**es are the only ones that matter? No! Acrylic and ink on 22 x 28in stretched gallery wrap canvas, sides white. Signed bottom left and on the back, accompanied by certificate of authenticity. Spray satin UV varnish to protect against dust and harmful UV rays.

Globally collected artist Deb Breton is an abstract expressionist artist living & working in Northern California, U.S. Hi, I’m Deb, In school, I was that quirky kid who was always drawing during English Literature class, or backstage painting sets for the Drama Department. At the top of my “career,” I was an artist for notable clients Nestle, Warner Brothers, and the Dali Museum. But I was not happy with the corporate hustle. So, I picked up woodturning, which eventually led me full circle back to painting. You will find me in my studio working with acrylics, oils, ink, and spray paint. My tools are oftentimes things like sponges, flowers, branches, and squeegees. I tend to break many of the rules that I was taught in art. But the hardest thing for me to learn was how to step out of my own way and let creativity flow. My art reflects my scattered mind —inspired by life, nature, the universe and sometimes even the beat of my playlist. It is extremely difficult for me to stay on script—my ADHD ensures that. Luckily, I find peace and calm in painting. Art is a reminder for us to honor our authentic selves in a world that often tries to box us in.
