About The Artwork

Artist Statement: PRISM I first realized my passion for visual storytelling when I was creating concept designs and showsets for branded attractions in themed entertainment. Starting with the books, scripts or the film research, I would sketch immersive scenarios, shot by shot highlighting the functional fantasy worlds of the characters, their actions, environments, mood and lighting, for a fully immersive guest experience in dark-rides, ride-films, street scenes, as well as retail and restaurants. I longed however to tell my own stories, and to explore themes that ignited my imagination. My paintings became the spaces for the stories I wanted to tell, where I would construct environments on two dimensional surfaces, to engage the viewer to experience a three dimensional environment- As much as I love painting, I still tell stories through photography, production design for film, theatrical sets, and installation, incorporating all my experience as an architectural designer. This story is about the wonder of light, which defines how we perceive ourselves and other objects in space. I consider my works constructions that layer and arrange physics of light and Chroma through geometric or organic form & surfaces. Influenced by architecture, futurist & expressionist dynamics; as well as the sleek lines of modernist design, I investigate spatial arrangements using an elemental and minimalist sensibility. They are intuitively driven and seek complexities that invite the viewer to move into a place of wonder. In the Prism series, my intention is to enable two-dimensional surfaces to harbor illusions of depth, endowing them with translucency, employing optical complexities and tension, to diffuse light into color forms, creating playful effects of spatial projection. Originally, I created a series of photographic works that quickly transformed into larger investigations, moving out of the containment of photography to painting and even installation. In these works, I want to transform the images from static, self-contained objects to open, playful mazes for a fully immersive experience.

I was always drawing and painting in my youth. My first career was as an interior designer and colorist for Silicon Valley giants and later Themed Entertainment Designer of award winning attractions for major Hollywood studios. I love storytelling! My early interest in drawing and painting was stronger than ever while leading theme park concept design projects at Universal Studios in Hollywood. During the late '90's, I followed the urge to develop my own personal artistic voice and began to create my works. My focus slowly changed from themed entertainment to fine art and my second career was born. To this date, I have exhibited nationally and internationally. This includes participation in many art fairs including Saatchi Art, The Other Art Fair, LA Art Show, Art Miami, group exhibitions in London, New York, Beijing and Tokyo. My work is represented at Gallery 825, Los Angeles Art Association, and at the collections of The Wonder Museum, Chicago; Grand Valley State University, Michigan; BG Gallery, Santa Monica; City of Toronto, City of Malibu, Tokyo National Museum, as well as many public and private collections internationally. My interest in laws of symmetry and spatial projection have allowed me to explore the relationship between materiality, illusionistic and literal space. My work is a personal expression of my lifelong fascination with visual and emotional effects of color, light and shadow, negative space, and the changing alignment of form as one's viewpoint changes. Inspired by nature and personal experience, my recent sculptures and installations explore the concepts of color, space, movement and transition. Through a meticulous and careful process I strive to create unique works of art of great visual impact, processing the potential of seemingly infinite complexity and exquisite beauty. I innovate with methods, mediums and machines, to develop my ideas, in the physical creation of a drawing, painting, a dimensional sculpture, or an entire immersive environment. As a dreamer and storyteller I have worked on award winning theme parks creating an experiential narrative based on films or stories - my art continues this tradition as it excites and gives energy to a place where you can dream and transcend into a meditative place to heal and connect in a higher spiritual domain - a place where you can question, drift and wander...
