About The Artwork

Portrait of Diana, Princess of Wales,1961 - 1997. Princess Diana was a figure of huge importance across the world and the British have always held very strong opinions about her role, her value as a Royal, her public and private life. I wanted to paint her fineness, her beauty but also her vulnerability and the open-mindedness she had, such a strong characteristic. These are depicted in her nudity and no disrespect is intended, indeed, I,thought about the style of painting for a long time before I tackled the subject. I made many drawings and colour sketches - I wanted rich and vibrant colours but I also wanted stillness and many meanings. As she hang on the cross of the Royal Family, the Royal Standard swirls behind her but does not cover her or protect her. The Japanese headband is what kamikaze pilots wore as they went to their deaths ... let us wonder how much of Diana's suffering was self inflicted. This painting took me a long time to paint - watercolour is unforgiving and when I approach a big work that has so much detail there is no room for even a tiny slip of the brush. I wrote 6 posts on my blog as I developed this painting and worked on the different elements. They may be found on my blog at http://studiobluesea.wordpress.com/tag/candle-in-the-divine-wind. I also made a music video ... please bear in mind that it was shot aboard my boat as we sat at anchor in a Spanish bay - boats are never still! Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I have drawn for as long as I can remember, my childhood endeavours becoming more proficient through my determined practice over the years. Throughout my adult life I have continued to draw, an activity that gives me great pleasure and satisfaction. I am an enthusiastic student of the techniques of the Old Masters and their widely varying portrayals of the human body, common to all, unique to each, and always challenging and inspiring to depict creatively. I am self-taught and paint in watercolour and, more recently, acrylic. I use a limited palette and only 3 or 4 top-quality brushes. I utilise the storehouse of impressions I have built up from my travels as a musician. My subconscious reworks these initial ideas in vivid, remembered dreams which become the inspirations for my work. www.studiobluesea.com www.studiobluesea.wordpress.com
