California Sunset: El Segundo Beach Painting

In the California Sunset series I hope to capture the feeling you have when you see a beautiful sunset. Important elements in the work are the dazzling reflections on the water, white, with soft color touches. I've been to a number of places along the California coast and got my inspiration from there. My paintings are not realistic, they symbolize a sunset, not a universal one, but a sunset in a certain place, at a certain moment. I only use the highest quality oil paint and increasingly the water mixable oil paint which is more environmentally friendly than the traditional ones. I continue to paint on the sides of the canvas so that framing of the work is not necessary. For extra protection, for example if the work is on display in a public place, you could consider a Guggenheim frame. This work is painted over an older painting. Traces of the old painting are sometimes still visible under the transparent paint. The signing and dating of the old work is also visible on the back.
