About The Artwork
Over a decade ago, the artist's home and studio burned to the ground in a California wildfire. She moved to a home with a beautiful garden, and found that wandering the paths there and working with the plants was immensely healing. All along, her artwork had focused on geology and the earth's surface, but now botanical abstracts started appearing -- and they haven't stopped. She realized that all along, her paintings had been about impermanence, because the earth builds up and erodes, and plants grow up, decay and later are reborn. Bright Future is done in oil paint mixed with cold wax medium, and is signed on the back. It is in a black wood floater frame with a narrow gold front edge, and is wired and ready to hang.

After losing our home to a wildfire in 2008, and then buying a home with a beautiful garden, I realized that my interests in geology and the natural world are really about the inevitability of change. Geology is the study of how the earth uplifts and erodes, and plants evolve every day. These processes are the inspiration for my paintings. The fire taught me about change, and to appreciate beauty in life when you have it.
