It is about boundaries and frameworks, which I regularly struggle with. I like to see a world without borders, I cherish complete freedom and equality, but I do need borders and frameworks to function properly. Where do I go over it, do I dare to look at the other side and do I experience new encounters and where do they give me something to hold on to? Of course, not only does this play a role in my life, many will probably recognize this. Many severe situations in the world are also about borders and especially not respecting them. The round lines/shapes in this painting provide connection and represent the world with all its countries, borders and colorful cultures. What will it look like if we were boundless?

“Where words are sometimes lacking, color and shapes fill that in for me. I play with it like a writer plays with sentences, or a cook with ingredients”. My work is a constant search for balance. I need structure, but I'm terrified of boring. To find a way around this I try to simplify the complexity of life through my art. What do I need now? What is superfluous? It is a constant game of adding & subtracting, of controlling & letting go. The framed shapes give me structure and tranquility. The colors create tension. This is how I try to create the perfect balance. It is a beautiful and sometimes complicated process. As a child I was already attracted by the dynamics of colors and planes. It is therefore not surprising that I attended the University of the Arts in Utrecht and graduated here in 1996. After that I started working as a fashion designer, stylist, designer and trend watcher. In all these disciplines I was also constantly working on color, form and composition. The love for this is simply in my DNA. Nowadays I work full time as an artist
