"Blue Orchid on Madison Ave #2" is an acrylic on raw canvas painting. This is a similar technique to Helen Frankenthaler's stained canvas. It allows the paint to sink into the canvas, and gives me effects similar to watercolor. This is the second painting in my series, "Blue Orchid on Madison Ave". I was captivated by the live flowers used in the display windows along Madison Ave. But in a CVS in The Village...I saw the most beautiful blue orchid. It stood out from all the others on display. I had no way to bring it back home with me. I couldn't help but think how gorgeous it would have been on Madison Ave...and how it might not ever be purchased by anyone at this drugstore. Since I returned home from NY, I've thought a lot about it's beauty...and have devoted this series to it. This painting measures 16" X 20" X 1 1/2" Finished with many coats of matte varnish. Signed on the front. And also signed and titled on the back.

Wyanne (pronounced Y-anne) has been a full-time artist for the past 30 years. Her work is in collections all over the world. In late 2013 Wyanne was diagnosed with Stage IV oral cancer. She had never smoked, and was otherwise relatively healthy. She lost her entire tongue and 66 lymph nodes. Speaking clearly has become a challenge. She takes all of her food and drink through a stomach feeding tube, but she is still cancer free. Wyanne considers the cancer a gift, pushing her to find the courage to express herself more honestly and boldly. She doesn’t waste a minute of the time she's been given, painting full time most every day.
