About The Artwork

Blue Repose offers the viewer a harmonious painting that elicits a sense of contemplative peacefulness. The painting celebrates the infinite cosmos. The overall impact has a restful visual effect giving one a sense of profound and timeless repose. The surface of the canvas is slightly textured with gesso and silica glass which adds an aesthetic tactility. This material element seems to ground the ethereal atmosphere. The minimal non-objective image comprises blue tones that range from violet ultramarine to warm teal. The artist uses a technique similar to mandala sand painting where she methodically taps a small fan brush creating random delicate lines, marks and flecks to cover the surface. This allows her to create is a subtle central light that softly radiates. Even when illumination is dim, the blues come alive and glow. The dark, blue black edges enhance the vignette of light and add elegance to the piece. Blue Repose does not require a frame as the edges add to the painting's overall effect. The work can be hung vertically or horizontally and is signed on the back.

“What I dream of is an art of balance, purity and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter, a soothing calming influence on the mind rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.” - - Henri Matisse. Inspired by Matisse’s artistic quest to uplift and energise the viewer, I strive to create light and colour filled paintings that illuminate, soothe and vitalise the human spirit. Perhaps my appreciation for abstraction comes from living in Canada surrounded by mountains, lakes, sky and forests. Nature continually presents me with soothing colours, exciting designs, delightful patterns, intriguing patinas and infinite space. Nature presents light, dark, shadows and movement which evoke emotions of mystery, wonder and love. My goal as a painter is to use nature’s abstract elements like colour and space to capture a particular feeling, a feeling of unity, passion or peacefulness. I strive to create painterly abstractions that mysteriously resonate with my deeper self and hopefully with the soul of the viewer. I believe art is a way to communicate one soul to another.
