About The Artwork

A small framed acrylic on a wooden panel. Framed size 9x9inches. While staying in Glen Clova -one of the Angus Glens in Scotland, I walked along the road to this fishing loch. I had taken a sketchbook and paints with me and spent a couple of hours there making sketchbook paintings. With no one else there it was extremely peaceful, just the sound of fish here and there. I have visited this part of Scotland many times and always take a sketchbook along. Later in the studio at home, I use these for reference. Sometimes the painting might be quite large, other times, as here, a small panel seemed to capture the spirit of the place. The artwork is on a cradled birchwood panel and is framed in a contemporary box style frame that is painted a soft white. It is ready to hang. Because colours are vital in my work, I only use artist quality paints.

www.chrissiehavers.com Represented by Cambridge Contemporary Art. The landscape is my main source of subject for painting - particularly the orderly impact on the landscape of human habitation and farming. The framework imposed by fencing hedges ditches etc and the impact these divisions have on the land is always interesting. Colours lent to the land for a few months by growing crops is another element. The rather harsh lemon of the rape or mustard crops, the cool blue of a linseed field, the effervescent mixture of echinacea flowers - all these colours provide problems for an artist. While they are very dramatic , visually they don’t sit well with the native trees and hedge colours, but I am drawn to them as a subject on exactly that account. This is what inspires my work - colour.
